Why don’t Liquid Metal Kits come with Sealer?
Applying a coat of sealer does change the appearance of liquid metal surfaces. Oxidised metal surfaces become darker, with less contrast, whilst most sealers dull the finish of polished metals.
When they get wet, liquid metals will darken & this may permanently change their appearance, so it’s important to avoid any moisture getting to them.
Is there any sealer that I can use to apply sealer over Polished Metals?
The best sealer to use over Polished Metals is Polyshield, because it’s a very glossy finish, it maintains a high sheen over the polished surface.
What sealer can I use over Oxidised Metals?
Once you have neutralised the surface & ensured it is completely dry, you can use Sealer Oxhider over the surface. This will seal the product enough to stop the surface transferring onto clothes & other items that come into contact with it, but it won’t provide waterproofing sufficient for bathrooms or hardness suitable for floors.
You can seal the surface with Aquamax Pro or Maxipur, but please be aware that you will be reliant on the sealer for waterproofing, so it needs to be done thoroughly & carefully to prevent any moisture getting to the liquid metal.
How do you Seal the surface?
Ensure the surface is completely dry.
Take care to cover down adjoining surfaces like walls or skirting boards & remove kickboards if possible.
Follow the installation guide for the sealer of your choice:
Aquamax Pro is a good choice for most oxidised surfaces, see the installation guide for full details on how to apply it. You can choose from any of the Cemher microcement sealers.
Polyshield is best for polished surfaces, this is recommended for use by professionals only, see installation guide for full details.
